Emerson’s lawyer Frederico Pena met with Barcelona executives on Thursday to discuss a 2-year extension of the club’s defender’s contract. This will keep the Brazilian – whose rights Barcelona acquired fully from Real Betis earlier this week – at the Camp Nou until 2026.
As the club has done with other players, their goal is to reduce his current salary and postpone that money to future years.
His playing time was also discussed at the meeting, according to Mundo Deportivo, with the idea of him ending up next season.
Emerson adds more competition to the right-wing position, a position where Azulgrana has spoiled itself by choice, Sergino Dest starting and Sergio Roberto and Oscar Mingueza have previously played.
A positive season for Real Betis has ensured that the Catalan club paid 9 million euros to bring him back to the club. Although there are many clubs looking at him in Europe, it seems he is about to stay in Barcelona.
