Leo Messi is currently a free transfer agent after realizing his contract at the Camp Nou expires on June 30, although the Catalan club are hopeful of agreeing to terms with Argentina’s re-signing in the coming weeks.
Barca president Laporta has been instructed by La Liga chiefs to reduce their salaries and balance their books before the start of the 2021-22 season, in order to comply with the relevant gaming rules.
Speaking at the launch of Mago Pop’s program ‘Nothing Can Be Done, Laporta also emphasized that negotiations for Leo Messi’s fresh contract “are ongoing enough”.
Messi is able to talk to clubs other than Barcelona, including the likes of Manchester City and PSG, although both clubs appear to have lessened their interest as they know the 33-year-old could be in Spain.
Messi, who scored 38 goals in 47 games for Barca in the 2020-21 season, recently won his first major title with Argentina, beating rivals Brazil 1-0 in the Copa America 2021 final.
