Barcelona President Joan Laporta highlighted the seriousness of Barcelona’s financial situation during a press conference on Monday, with a staggering 451 million euros.
After comparing their status with other clubs, Joan Laporta realized that Barcelona had been spending too much on salaries.
“Barcelona has a staggering 451 million euros,” said Laporta, as well as having “a salary cap representing 103% of the club’s revenue. It represents 20-25 percent more than its competitors.”
The Barcelona president Joan Laporta noted that they did not find it easy to encourage players to accept low-paying contracts.
Laporta said”We had a difficult time re-negotiating the players’ contracts,”
“There was a way of working that went beyond internal control.”
