Lionel Messi and Barcelona are expected to officially re-sign Argentina’s new contract with the club which is expected to be announced in the next few hours.
According to Marca, Barcelona and Messi reached an agreement 3 weeks ago, but financial problems in Barcelona mean the deal should have been delayed. But now President Joan Laporta is now breathing easily as his main goal has been achieved.
The club is hopeful that their star will sign his new contract in the coming few hours and they could make Leo Messi’s stay in Barcelona a big one.
Leo Messi has been on free transfer agent since June 30, when his current contract with Barcelona expired, and Messi’s Father Jorge Messi and agent is expected to be in Barcelona over the weekend. That would end a series of games that have been going on for almost a year since No. 10 announced his intention to leave Camp Nou.
Leo Messi will strengthen the agreement reached 3 weeks ago, and in the next 5 years, he will commit at Camp Nou. However, for the last 3 years, he could play in the United States and become a Catalan club ambassador.
The deal was made only because Messi reduced his salary by half and the economic injection received by LaLiga from the American investment fund CVC. Barcelona are still working to reduce their salaries by continuing as required by LaLiga.
As a result, Barcelona and LaLiga will retain one of the most important players in Spain. Leo Messi, who has 6 Ballon d’Ors and 6 Golden Boots, will start his 18th season in Spain’s top division as he seeks to strengthen his place in the record books.
