Leo Messi has been seen aiming to extend his stay in Barcelona only due to financial constraints preventing him from signing a new contract, and his departure from Barca was confirmed on Thursday evening.

PSG and Manchester City have both been closely linked with a move to Leo Messi during his transfer last year, but Pep Guardiola has denied that Premier League champions may have taken the initiative to attack.

As a result, transfer expert journalist Fabrizo Romano reports that PSG are “so, very optimistic” about their chances of signing Leo Messi and extend a 2-year contract until 2023 with a further 12 months.

Romano also added that Mauricio Pochettino’s side would present the gift to Leo Messi and his father Jorge in the coming hours, and Neymar has been pressuring PSG to secure the contract.

Leo Messi has left Barcelona after scoring 672 goals and 305 assists in 778 games, winning 4 Champions League titles and 10 La Liga trophies during an impressive 16 years in Barcelona.

Chelsea have also been asked to fight for a free transfer agent following Thursday’s news, and Roman Abramovich has reportedly called an emergency meeting to discuss the situation.
