Xavi is believed to be one of the candidates Catalan club’s top five to replace current manager Ronald Koeman, should they decide to resign the Dutchman.
Xavi has been learning the ropes as a manager since 2019 with Qatar’s club Al Sadd outfit, and Iniesta believes his Spanish team-mate is ready to take the next step in his coaching career.
Iniesta told SPORT “I think he is [ready], yes. If you ask me if I think of Xavi on the Barca bench. Above all, because he was preparing and training to coach Barca. He is confident to face this challenge,”
Iniesta himself has given his thoughts on the potential coaching job when he retires, but midfielder Vissel Kobe is currently unsure if he wants to go down that route.
“There are days when you think you want to train, some no, I don’t know. Playing right now, it’s hard to imagine anything. It’s true that I have to think (about training) and see what the opportunities are. What I’d like to do and I think I’ll do, is get my badges.”
Xavi and Iniesta played 1,441 games together in all competitions for Barcelona, winning 7 La Liga titles and 4 UEFA Champions League trophies together on the same side.
