On Sunday evening it was reported that Brazilian police had been ordered to deport four Argentine players who had accompanied the squad, all from the Premier League.

According to current policies in the country, Emiliano Buendia, Emiliano Martinez, Giovani Lo Celso, and Cristian Romero were all intended to split 14 days before entry.

Their failure to do so threatened to block their appearances in the match, although CONMEBOL said they would give Argentina points if the match did not go ahead.

Emiliano Martinez, Lo Celoso, and Cristian Romero all started the match but within 10 minutes the match officials entered the stadium and demanded that the process be suspended.

Premier League teams initially tried to prevent their players from traveling to South America to take part in the three games during the international break.

The countries in that region are on the UK red list which means people who go there have to be separated for ten days on their return.

Mid-week players would not return until about Friday and would not be allowed out for ten days, without training.

That would mean players who miss the next two weekends of league games, as well as Champions League and Europa League matches for those in Europe.

With no opportunity to train, the players would have to regain their match quality, all likely to return to international service in October at the next break.
