Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders says young midfielder Harvey Elliott has responded “sharply” to his recent ankle fracture.

Elliott was extended during Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Leeds earlier this month and has since undergone surgery. It comes as a huge setback for this 18-year-old, who has just started his first season as a permanent member of the first team squad prominently.

It is unlikely that Elliott will be back on the field in a few months, but Lijnders has spoken well of his handling of the situation.

“Harvey is Harvey, a young boy and he gets on well with him,” the coach said, using LiverpoolFC.com.

“He handles it very well and we have a very strong structure with our medical department, and all the boys around us, we try to support him as much as possible in the early stages.”
