Barcelona are working hard to convince Xavi to return to the team and replace Ronald Koeman as head coach.
Joan Laporta and the club’s board of directors have compiled a list of potential replacements for the Dutchman, as they then handed Koeman a fearful vote earlier this month.
Koeman has not been able to strengthen the ship since then, with a draw against Granada and Cadiz followed by another Champions League humiliating Benfica.
According to the 90min revealed earlier this month that the board had decided to leave Ronald Koeman, and they were working hard in the background to bring in a replacement.
Sources in Catalonia have now confirmed that many people linked with Barça are trying to convince Xavi to ‘come home. The famous Spanish midfielder, who has been roaming the club’s center for most of two decades, is currently in Qatar with Al-Sadd, ending his playing career in 2019 before taking over as manager.
He set his future at the club earlier this summer, signing a two-year contract, despite being linked with a move to Barça. Indeed, before Laporta was re-elected president, Xavi was closely linked to one of his opponents, Victor Font.
Because of this, Laporta and Xavi are not considered to be very effective. Those around the club are hopeful that it will not be a problem, but it looks like it has contributed to his not returning this season.
