Toni Freixa was a member of Barcelona’s board of directors three times. The first was with Joan Laporta as president between 2003 and 2005, then under Sandro Rosell from 2013 to 2014, and, finally, in 2015 in the first year of the reign of Josep Maria Bartomeu.
On Monday he spoke to Radio MARCA about the General Assembly held at the Camp Nou on Sunday and other news related to the club.
“There was a bad situation, and we did not have time to deal with all the problems, and [the aseembles] had to be stopped,” he said.
“It seemed right to me. With the speed at which it was moving, it was clear that there would be no time. There were 12 different points and you could see that their movement didn’t allow for that.”
Barcelona faces Real Madrid on Sunday and Frixa believes a positive result could signal a change in the team.
“It’s a unique game. It’s always fun to watch,” he said.
“For us, it can be a sure sign of a change in habits from which we started the season. Barcelona will compete for everything and will stop keeping an eye on the coach.”
With the departure of Leo Messi, Freixa dismissed the possibility that Argentina could play for free.
“The idea that Leo Messi should play for free was an automatic declaration,” he said.
“The Board’s renewal program for Leo Messi did not include Messi playing for free. Impossible with the idea of Financial Fair Play. It was an anecdote.”
