The reigning Copa America 2021 champions came into the match against their arch-rivals knowing that a win might not be enough to secure their ticket, but a draw could be.

Lionel Scaloni’s team won the World Cup in Qatar. The 0-0 draw with Brazil in the World Cup qualifiers did not allow Argentina to enter but it was Ecuador’s 2-0 win over Chile that sent Argentina to Qatar.

South Africa’s top four World Cup qualifiers and the fifth-ranked team in the World Cup qualifiers. The top four teams are Brazil, Argentina, Ecuador and Colombia, and Peru after 17 points.

Four games left with 12 points unbeaten and Chile, behind Peru at the table with 16 points. If he is likely to win the remaining three games, he will reach 28 points, one behind Argentina.

With both Colombia and Peru with 17 points, they play evenly in the next round and that could mean that both teams will not reach 29 points.
