Barcelona expects young Pedri and Ansu Fati to return from injury against Mallorca on January 2 – the first game after their winter break. Midfielder Pedri has been out since the end of November with a thigh injury and is struggling to regain strength after a busy 2020/21 season.
Fati, on the other hand, missed most of the last campaign and appeared occasionally this year, but had new muscle problems in recent weeks.
According to Mundo Deportivo reports that Barça expects to be able to host the two in their first La Liga match of 2022 on a trip to Mallorca on January 2.
Pedri – who recently won the French Copy Trophy and the Tuttosport Golden Boy trophy – has made significant progress in his recovery but has yet to improve on his current form in the game, with Barcelona rejecting his desire to rush Fati back before the winter break.
Dani Alves, who re-signed for the club last month but has to wait until January to be registered, is expected to play his second Barça game against Mallorca.
The Barcelona season has already been marred by injuries even before Sergio Aguero announced his retirement following a heart attack on Wednesday.
Failure to start the campaign following the departure of Lionel Messi led to the sacking of coach Ronald Koeman, who was replaced by Xavi.
The former midfielder has split his first six games at Camp Nou, won two, drawn two, and lost two.
