Barcelona have joined the race to sign River Plate striker Julian Alvarez, according to Argentine media reports. Catalan giants have sent scouts to look for Alvarez in Argentina’s Primera Division and could take the 21-year-old to the January transfer window, Ole media reported on Friday.
He added that Blaugrana’s interest was exacerbated by muscle injury at Memphis Depay and uncertainty over Sergio Aguero’s future due to heart problems.
Having played five games for the Argentine national team, Julian Alvarez is the leading scorer in the Primera Division this season with 17 goals in 20 games.
His game has reportedly attracted the attention of Juventus, Sevilla, Inter Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Milan, and Fiorentina.
Julian Alvarez has a 20 million euro release clause in his River Plate contract, which expires next December. However, it is believed that the Buenos Aires club could double that amount considering the recent type of attacker and the growing interest of European players.
