After Borussia Dortmund’s 3-0 win over Greuther Furth on Wednesday, Erling Haaland was seen lifting four points for Signal Iduna Park in what was interpreted as a farewell act after scoring a goal to give his team three points.
However, the club’s sporting director, Michael Zorc, reassured fans after Dortmund’s final match in 2021 that the Norwegian player would sit at the January transfer window.
“I asked him what was the reason for the show but he did not respond,” Zorc told Sky Sports Germany.
“Of course he will stay. Yes, we would like him to stay in Dortmund in the summer. We must not abandon him, not for financial reasons.
“But we also know that under certain circumstances you have the opportunity to change [clubs] and we will have discussions with him in the coming weeks.
“We have a long-term contract with him, so he has to take action first and not us. Everything will be fine for Dortmund if he stays that way.”
