For years Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have competed for the world football title. Goals, medals … Wherever ’10 ‘was, ‘7’ reappeared in that ongoing battle to be the best.

Lionel Messi spoke to ‘French football’ about the conflict between the two in all their sporting activities. “I always wanted to improve myself and not look at what others were doing. With Cristiano Ronaldo, we kept competing for years. It was good and it helped us grow in our careers, but without looking at each other. I just wanted you to be the best, not the best,” he said.

About how he considers himself the best player in history, he denied that he feels that way: “I never said I was the best and I never tried to make myself think that. For me, being considered the best is enough., It’s something I would never have thought of.

And Lionel Messi does not want to be compared to Diego Maradona. “I never liked or ignored that comment. Some criticisms bothered me in the past. I had bad times with Argentina, but not because of that,” he said.

He also had kind words for his teammate Neymar, who gave him a ’10 ‘when he signed for PSG, but Lionel Messi refused. “That number was his. I came to the new team to help. It was his unusual action, I was expecting it because I knew Neymar. We spent time in Barcelona and we were friends. It seemed right to me that I should keep ’10.

Leo Messi has regretted not celebrating the UEFA Champions League win over Barca in 2006 because of his anger, as he did not play in that match. “I’m sorry about that. At the time I thought I didn’t play. I was disappointed, even though I managed to play until the last 16. I’m sorry about that episode. We won the Champions League and I wasn’t sure we could do it again, but luckily I was able to enjoy it,” he explained.

He described himself as a player: “I have always been free to go wherever I wanted, without much respect for the position. I do not know if I have ever felt the pressure in the years I have played, I have been responsible for the results and accuracy.

As for the man who follows football player Messi, he has admitted that sometimes he wishes he was anonymous. “I have been a Messi for 34 years, everything I am used to even though sometimes I like to be ignored I do not complain, I am used to it, it has become normal.
