Barcelona will already welcome Ferran Torres from Manchester City, as their signing has been finalized. But now the focus will be on advancing deadweight from the team to free up space on wage earnings.
The only Blaugrana player still looking forward to progressing in January is Philippe Coutinho. The 29-year-old will end four years at the Camp Nou next month but I can say that Barça’s huge investment in Brazil has failed to pay off.
Unwanted by manager Xavi Hernandez, Coutinho will be allowed to leave through the next window. And, according to SPORT, Liverpool’s former ace could return to the Premier League, with Arsenal appearing to be interested in his career.
Indeed, the report says Gunners manager Mikel Arteta has approved Coutinho’s signing as he believes he can help the club reach the top four.
Arsenal have missed out on European football this season and are keen to return to the top four. North London giants currently sit fourth in the Premier League, but as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang clashes with the manager and Nicolas Pepe without a harvest, intensifying attacks will be welcomed at the Emirates.
To that end, Coutinho has now emerged as a target, and negotiations are believed to be possible, albeit at an early stage. Barcelona would like to sell Coutinho immediately, but there is a possibility that it could end up in a loan, the report said.
Since joining Barcelona from Liverpool, Coutinho has played 106 games in all competitions, producing 25 goals and 14 assists. One of the highest-paid players on the team, he has 18 months left on his contract.
Moving him will remove a huge burden on Barça’s salary debt, creating a new enrollment system. It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will pursue their interests and sign him.
