Wednesday’s meeting between Barcelona and Ousmane Dembele’s agent Moussa Sissoko was anything but fruitful due to the high salary demands on the part of the French forward.
A few weeks ago, everything indicated that the two parties would reach an agreement, with both the club and coach Xavi Hernandez optimistic that Dembele would stay put, but everything changed this week.
As revealed by TV3, Sissoko requested a salary of 30 million euros gross per season for his client. He also asked to include add-ons according to the number of games played by his client, but also demanded 15m euros in commission and 30m euros of renewal bonus.
Struggling financially following the COVID-19 outbreak, Barcelona can’t afford to meet Dembele’s demands. The Catalan club offered the Frenchman a pay cut in a deal that includes add-ons depending on his performance.
Talks between the two parties have been going on for many months but no deal has been reached, while Premier League clubs have approached the agent to make their offers for the France international.
Meanwhile, Dembele is self-isolating at home after testing positive for COVID-19 and everything indicates that he will miss out on Barcelona’s game against Real Mallorca on Sunday.
