Ralf Rangnick’s time at Old Trafford got off to a good start as Fred’s second half in a 1-0 win over Manchester United beat Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The Brazilian midfielder was joined by Mason Greenwood on the edge of the penalty area, before turning a huge effort into Vicente Guaita in the top corner.
The extra strength from Man United was evident from the get-go when the athletes were lined up 4-2-2-2 and pressed with great speed.
Alex Telles fired in the second half from the corner, and Cristiano Ronaldo took part in scoring a goal before Marc Guehi recovered to clear the gap. Jadon Sancho then lay down for Fred on the edge of the area, but the midfielder’s goal-scoring effort was blocked with a brace by James Tomkins.
United continued to pour in, with Ronaldo getting another chance in the penalty area just after half an hour, but Patrick Vieira’s side began to get a foot in the game – and previously dangerous for Wilfried Zaha in the attack – with. warning that they could not collect any clear opportunities.
Man United did not work well with the same zip in their move to start the second half, although it came close when Bruno Fernandes’ cross was cut to avoid Ronaldo by inches as Guaita collected under pressure.
Telles was unlucky not to put the athletes ahead just an hour later when his free kick from a solid area passed over the Palace post, but then, perhaps, the best chance of the game fell to the visitors.
Tomkins rose high from the corner and when his head went back across the goal to cross the Jordan Ayew had the only goal he had to score. Unfortunately for Palace, he split his effort into a remote area.
United then punished Vieira’s side a few minutes later. Using the ball neatly in the penalty box using Greenwood, the replacement put Fred back the ball on the edge of the box and the Brazilian wrapped a surprise with his weak foot into the top corner to give Rangnick the first win.
