Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Ander Herrera revealed part of the team’s secret pre-match nourishment.
The Spaniard, who also represented Manchester United and Athletic Club, told the futbolemotion Instagram page that the French team players were given a beetroot smoothie before the games as scientifically proven to improve performance.
The 32-year-old also explained that the drink came as a surprise later, which made some players a little nervous after drinking it for the first time.
“When you urinate after a game it looks like you’re bleeding because you’re strong,” Herrera told Futbolemotion.
“On the first day you say alas, I’m going to bleed.
“But then you remember you had a bit.”
The beetroot has been a tactic for the Parisians this season as they currently sit at the top of Ligue 1, 13 points ahead of Marseille, and have lost just once in the league. After advancing to the French Cup on Sunday, PSG returned to league action on Wednesday against Lorient
