Cole Bassett scored the winning goal in the final minutes as the United States finished the 2021 strong tournament with a 1-0 international friendly 10-man win over Bosnia-Herzegovina in Carson on Saturday.
Colorado Rapids midfielder Bassett, 20, hit a high crossbar in the 89th minute, with Bosnian goalkeeper Nikola Cetkovic unable to contain Jonathan Gomez’s effort.
The result extends the unbeaten USA run to four games and makes it 17 wins in the calendar year in its final 2021 match.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men in the 40th minute when Amar Begic was given a straight red card following a tough challenge from Kellyn Acosta.
Jordan Morris was very close to scoring in the first half, with Cetkovic’s curved header stretching his leg in the 31st minute.
USA coach Gregg Berhalter has selected the most stable squad at home, with players like Weston McKennie, Zack Steffen, and Christian Pulisic missing.
