Borussia Dortmund’s top scorer Erling Haaland has been forced to take a break as a result of what the club calls “muscle problems.”
Erling Haaland had to come out in the 63rd minute when Dortmund won 3-2 at Hoffenheim on Saturday with what appeared to be a groin injury. Earlier in the match, the 21-year-old Norwegian athlete received treatment for his right knee before proceeding. He was tested on Sunday and Monday.
“Haaland is suffering from muscle problems, which need more treatment and testing in the coming days,” Dortmund told his website on Monday.
It is the third time this season that Haaland has been forced out due to reported muscle problems. He missed three games between the end of September in mid-October due to a hip problem and seven more from the end of October to the end of November.
He still has 16 goals in 14 Bundesliga games this season. Dortmund did not say how long the striker would remain out of action.
“We wish Erling the best of luck soon and get back to doing what he loves most – scoring goals in Dortmund,” the club said.
Dortmund are second in the Bundesliga, with six points behind Bayern Munich in 20 games.
