Manchester City have won the race to find a brilliant young River Plate striker Julian Alvarez. Sources in South America have confirmed that Manchester City have agreed on terms to buy the 21-year-old Alvarez on a £ 20m deal.
It is understood the deal will be finalized this month, but the Argentine will remain at River until the end of the City season and join his new club in the summer.
Julian Alvarez had a release clause of about £ 18m but it is believed the two clubs have reached an agreement on a transfer without the need for a start.
The striker has been linked with a number of European clubs in recent weeks, including rivals Manchester United and Serie A rivals Juventus and Inter.
But it is City who have won the Alvarez race, who have scored 22 goals in 45 games for River Plate this season and will face Argentina’s biggest team in the upcoming World Cup qualifiers 2022.
