Manchester City have officially announced the signing of Julian Alvarez from River Plate, and the 22-year-old striker will remain with Los Millonarios until June.
The highly promising Argentine midfielder has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract with Manchester City, paying a reported fee of 18.5 million euros and extensions.
“Julian is a player we have been watching for a long time,” Manchester City director Txiki Begiristain told the club’s website.
“He is able to work in a number of attacking positions, and we strongly believe he is one of the best attacking young players in South America.
“I’m very happy that we were able to bring him to Manchester City. I really believe we can give him the right conditions to fulfill his potential and become a top player.”
Alvarez was in excellent form for River in the 2020/21 season, scoring 18 goals and providing seven assistants in 21 games for Argentina’s Primera Division.
