Manchester City have made it clear they have advanced to the quarter-finals of the Champions League by demolishing the last 16 in the first leg of Sporting Lisbon in Portugal.
Having done so much for this season, City did their best to give themselves an undeniable opportunity when facing powerful and renewed Portuguese champions.
Bernardo Silva was brilliant, silencing the boos that greeted all of his touches and the other three former City players of Benfica with goals for his second and fourth team, the first being a brilliant half-volley following.
Riyad Mahrez in form was on the points page and had just finished closing off the nearest VAR after a long delay to check if Kevin de Bruyne had deviated offside during construction as previously stated.
Phil Foden also added to his growing collection of cool, cool cools in the first half that disrupted Sporting.
There was no compromise after the break when Silva saw a hat-trick offside before stopping Raheem Sterling to roll in fifth place.
Sporting will visit Manchester for the official leg of the second leg on Wednesday 16 March.
