Manchester City extended their lead over Liverpool in the Premier League with double figures after beating Brentford 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium.

The home side dominated the game without causing many injuries to Thomas Frank’s team but ended up scoring three points after two goals which were a gift but came from City pressure.

Riyad Mahrez hit a penalty kick in the first half after Raheem Sterling was fouled in the box after the Citizens won the ball high on the pitch. After the break, Bees goalkeeper David Raya’s ball was met by a team of City players, and although he saved Sterling‘s effort there was nothing he could do about Kevin De Bruyne‘s rebound.

After the second goal, Man City looked more confident and approached a few times as they passed the remaining 20 minutes and began to appear to have a better winning streak than the first time.

The result leaves City 12 points ahead of second-placed Liverpool and this distance could be a huge psychological boost to Pep Guardiola’s side, as the Reds will be out of action now.
