Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti played down the injury concern of talisman Karim Benzema after the Frenchman appeared hurt soon after netting his second goal in a 3-0 win over Real Mallorca.
Benzema scored two goals in the second half of the second half to make the game over Madrid on Monday but looked disappointed as he celebrated Los Blancos’ third goal.
Shortly afterward, in the 85th minute, Benzema showed up with a problem with his calf, forcing Madrid to close out the game with 10 men as they had used their five approved substitutes.
The two goals made Benzema’s season stand out 22 in 25 LaLiga games, and although Ancelotti admits they are in “wait and see” mode, he doesn’t expect anything serious.
A major problem for their key man could be a significant contribution to Madrid ahead of Sunday’s El Clasico.
“We have to check on him in the next few days – things don’t look so bad,” Ancelotti said.
“Karim did not feel well after the jump – we have to wait until Wednesday [to learn more].”
Real Madrid are now 10 points adrift of second-placed Sevilla but face a tough test of their qualifications by visiting reviving Barcelona.
