Cristian Romero endured a broken leave after his appeal against suspension was rejected ahead of Argentina’s World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.
The Tottenham defender has been called up to the national team despite being suspended for not following international rules during the September break.
Romero, along with Emiliano Buendia, Emiliano Martinez, and Giovani Lo Celso, made their first two-match ban on Friday’s win over Venezuela, with the Argentine FA hoping that the suspension could be reversed.
FIFA has now confirmed that the ban will be lifted, meaning Romero has flown to South America to prevent him from playing football.
The defender can now return to Spurs soon. Ben Davies has also left the Wales camp and returned to north London and is expected to be ready for a visit to Newcastle on Sunday.
Tottenham and Argentina are not in a good relationship right now. The team was not happy with the national team’s decision to call Romero despite his suspension, although they had already booked a place at the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
Romero was also sidelined for three months after suffering a hamstring injury with Argentina in November, while Lo Celso and Colombia’s Davinson Sanchez had to train in Croatia before returning to the United Kingdom to avoid solitary confinement.
Since returning from the injury, however, Romero has impressed Spurs, with his aggressive defensive ability and playing football that benefits fans from Tottenham fans.
