The likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid have until the end of April to meet the release clause of BVB striker Erling Haaland, with the Norwegian’s future set to be clarified soon.
Erling Haaland is one of the most in-demand players on the earth and has shot to prominence with his prolific goalscoring records for RB Salzburg and more recently Dortmund, who he joined ahead of Manchester United in December 2019.
The 21-year-old has scored 80 goals in 80 games for the Bundesliga team.
Although it has long been uncommon for Haaland to leave Dortmund for a major club this summer – with a € 75million (£ 63m) release clause applied to his contract – German letter Bild revealed Wednesday that the parties must meet a legal clause. on April 30, when it expires.
This echoes suggestions from BVB executive director Hans-Joachim Watzke last month that the future of Haaland would be determined “in a month, maybe six weeks”.
The Bild report states that in order for the clause to be commenced, the player must submit a written request to the club for use, while the purchasing team must confirm the transfer fee in their statement
there are still a handful of clubs running, although City and Real Madrid have been promoted as top runners. Bayern Munich are still optimistic and uncertainty remains for Robert Lewandowski’s future, as reported earlier this month, as Barcelona continues to rebuild and remain mixed.
City have not denied talks over Haaland, and Mail Online reported on Wednesday that the Norwegian midfielder will earn £ 500,000 a week if he joins the Premier League champions. This will make Haaland not only the highest-paid player in City ahead of Kevin De Bruyne, but also the highest paid in the Premier League, and ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in the rest of the city.
Other suggestions that Haaland chooses to travel to Spain, namely Real or Barcelona, have been undermined by sources close to the player.
