Pep Guardiola has admitted that Manchester City needs a striker. The Citizens have not had a striker come out with a sense of humor since Sergio Aguero left the club at the end of last season.

Efforts to find a replacement for the quality last summer ended in failure for Guardiola, as many of Harry Kane’s special offers were scrapped, among others.

The road to Cristiano Ronaldo was also hijacked by neighbor Manchester United, who closed the Portuguese stadium from Juventus.

Since then, a number of players including Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus have helped close the gap in the past, with Ferran Torres being used from time to time before moving to Barcelona.

While the lack of a traditional player in that role has not dashed City’s hopes this season, nor has it hampered their grip on the title, Guardiola has admitted that City will be looking to re-hire the role at the end of the campaign.

“I think the club needs a striker, for sure,” the Spaniard said ahead of Sunday’s derby match against United.

“You say we play well without a striker because we win, if we don’t win you say we need a striker.

“[He says] ‘How do these guys play without a striker? In the Premier League, you have to play with a striker’. So, we need a striker, I think the club will try to [buy one].”

City bought Julian Alvarez in January, before a quick loan move to River Plate, but it remains to be seen whether the Argentine midfielder could be a long-term solution.
