Manchester United have held a long-standing interest in Harty Kane and could make a fresh approach for the England captain at the end of the season, with the 28-year-old having expressed his desire to leave Spurs last summer.

Kane was keen on a move from Manchester City last summer, despite Spurs rejecting a few Premier League champions’ bids.

City are now pursuing a deal with Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland and that could open the door for United to leave, with the Mirror reports that the Red Devils will try to tempt Kane at Old Trafford.

Kane has two years left on his contract this summer and chairman Daniel Levy will have to make a decision if a new contract is not signed, as Spurs are facing the prospect of their talent leading to the reduction of his contract.

United’s interest in Mauricio Pochettino as their next permanent manager could also help to pursue Kane, who enjoyed a strong working relationship with Argentina during their time together in North London.

Spurs are still hopeful that the presence of Antonio Conte could keep Kane in the capital and the striker have spoken publicly about his excitement over working with the Italian.

However, Manchester United’s 3-2 defeat last weekend leaves Spurs with a huge task ahead of them in the top four of the Premier League and Kane’s future could depend on whether the club could defend Champions League football.
