The Premier League has announced that all club captains will wear special armbands in the colors of Ukraine, with fans encouraged to show their support with a “moment of reflection and solidarity before kick-off at each game.”
All logos and profiles for digital Premier League channels will be edited to represent the Ukrainian colors.
It is not uncommon to see large companies biased in such situations, but the rigors of Russia’s actions have forced the Premier League to take action. At the beginning of their statement, we read: “The Premier League and our clubs wholeheartedly reject Russia’s actions.” This is a departure from the Premier League to show support for the country, especially with many Ukrainian players representing clubs in the league.
The screens inside the stadiums will show “Football Standing Together”, with a Ukrainian color background.
Last week, one good thing you can take for the amazing support shown by three Ukrainian people playing in the Premier League. West Ham allowed Andriy Yarmolenko for a while and Vitaliy Mykolenko and Oleksandr Zinchenko shared a touching moment on the pitch, ahead of Everton’s match against Manchester City.
Everton players showed support, entering the stadium carrying Ukrainian flags on the shoulders of one of them. Zinchenko and Mykolenko were clearly affected at this time.
