Barcelona manager Xavi has admitted that he did not expect his team to beat Real Madrid the way they did in Sunday’s 4-0 win at the Bernabeu.

La Blaugrana did wonders for Madrid and made one of their best games in recent memory, picking Real brutally and scoring four unanswered goals against La Liga leaders.

After the game, Xavi admitted that the result could turn a new era into Barcelona, or he did not expect it to come as it did.

“I’m happy, I’m happy, I’m satisfied with everything in Barcelona,” said Xavi. “This effect can change current and future dynamics.

“It ‘s like we’re back, it’s a day of rejoicing and celebration. In the past, we didn’t have much fun. But we went back to the table. It could be said that we were coming back.

“We have competed against a strong Real Madrid in their own stadium. The game was good and we could have scored a lot of goals. We could have gone to fifth place. I’m happy with the way they play and practice. We were much better than Real. Madrid.

“We have worked on these awards, but we did not expect to be so high on their pitch. We were expecting a very open game. I am very happy.”

Xavi has also refused to challenge Spain’s title – Barcelona are 12 points behind Real with one game in hand – but has admitted he does not see his side winning yet.

“We have to keep working, this result is not the best,” he said. “We have to humble ourselves. We celebrate today and relax and think of Sevilla. There are only three points left.

“I do not think we will win La Liga, it is very difficult. But today is a big step. First, we have to find a place in the Champions League, and then we will see.

“Winning La Liga is difficult. Nothing has changed since yesterday. But we are not wasting it. We must continue to work.”
