Christian Eriksen has revealed that he is still a Tottenham fan and wants the club to qualify for the UEFA Champions League this season.
The Danish midfielder faced his old club on Saturday for the first time since leaving Inter in January 2020, although much has changed for Eriksen and Spurs at the time.
He is now receiving a rave update when he returns to professional football with Brentford, as he was once heartbroken at Euro 2020.
Eriksen looked set to be the most likely player to break the deadline on Saturday night, but neither team can find a way to pass and end the scoring, withdrawing Tottenham’s top four bids and leading Brentford with 40 points related to Premier League survival.
After the game, Eriksen told Sky Sports: “Obviously it was the first time we played Spurs since I left so it will be special, but I have no problem with the draw.
“I was strong [nervous] … but it was fun.”
Tottenham’s selection means Tottenham are out of the top four, with Arsenal beating Manchester United earlier on Saturday to take a tough place at the end of the season.
“I’m still a Spurs fan,” added Eriksen. “I hope they get into the Champions League.”
Spurs hope to bring Eriksen back to the club in the summer, or any such move will depend on manager Antonio Conte’s stay and Champions League qualifications.
