Manchester United are expected to continue with Ajax’s Erik ten Hag as the club’s next coach.
Manchester United have reduced their demand for long-term successor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to Ten Hag and Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino a few weeks ago, speaking to both nominees with a view to making a decision this month.
Despite the differences between the two candidates, Ten Hag has emerged as the frontrunner. The club are expected to finalize contracts with the 52-year-old Dutchman with a view to taking over from interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who took over from Solskjaer following his dismissal in November last year.
Ralf Rangnick has been a strong advocate for Ten Hag throughout the process, as reported in recent weeks, although he has not been directly involved in the recruitment process.
John Murtough, the club’s director of football, and Darren Fletcher have taken over the reins, although it was last signed by new chief executive Richard Arnold. Murtaugh greatly appreciated Rangnick’s vision throughout the program.
Pochettino has been loved by many of Manchester United’s management for several years, with prominent team members such as Sir Alex Ferguson and former vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
No agreement has been reached with Ten Hag, although the news is expected to continue without controversy in the coming days and weeks.
