Pep Guardiola has revealed he is willing to remain Manchester City manager ‘forever’ after he was linked to the Brazil national team job this week.

The Catalan coach gained a reputation as a short-term manager after leaving Barcelona four years into the Camp Nou job, before staying at Bayern Munich for just three seasons.

However, Guardiola is into his sixth season as Man City boss, while his current contract expires at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.

Ahead of Man City’s monster Premier League showdown with Liverpool on Sunday, Guardiola was asked about recent links to the Brazil job but insisted he wants to stay at the Etihad Stadium in the long-term.

“I’m under contract here, I’m so happy here. I’m willing to stay forever here. Cannot be a better place to be, I’d extend the contract 10 years,” he said.

Guardiola added that Liverpool are the biggest rivals that he’s faced in a career that has seen him face off with Jose Mourinho’s Real Madrid and Jurgen Klopp’s Borussia Dortmund, revealing that the German’s current side push his own men to extraordinary feats.

“I will remember my period here when I’m watching and playing golf, I’ll remember my biggest rivals were Liverpool, for sure,” he said. “Absolutely we wouldn’t be as good but for them, after 100 points, with 98 and they are just behind you have someone pushing you, you have to make another step,” he added.

When asked if he’d have a glass of wine with Klopp post-match on Sunday, Guardiola replied: “If we win I’d love it. I’ll invite him! And he’s said many times that we’re a rich club so the wine will be perfect, high quality.”
