Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo did not fare well in Blaugrana’s bid to sign new defenders this summer, especially two Chelsea players Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger.
Araujo’s contract expires at the end of the 2022/23 season and he has not yet agreed on a new deal with Barça at moment and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent months.
Barcelona’s latest contract will give Araujo his salary four times over, although he will continue to be one of the lowest-paid members of the first team.
And the sport now reports that the Uruguayan camp has learned that Barcelona offered a huge salary to bring Christensen to the club this summer – club president Joan Laporta all confirmed but confirmed last week – while their vicious interest in Rudiger did not diminish. well though.
The Catalan club are also keen to sign Chelsea’s third defender Cesar Azpilicueta, although there is a clause in the extension of his new contract.
Finally, Araujo wants to stay in Barcelona – he has a good relationship with coach Xavi and believes his project has legs. However, the club recognizes the player’s position and therefore participates in negotiations.
Araujo believes he deserves a bigger contract because of the impressive performances of the season, especially starting right-back and beating Barcelona in a 4-0 Clasico victory over Real Madrid last month.
