Barcelona president Joan Laporta says Neymar and Lionel Messi will return to the club later in their free transfer work and if they are equal in the coach’s opinion.
Neymar joined Paris Saint-Germain with a world record in 2017, and Barça was unable to extend Messi’s contract last summer due to financial problems before joining the French giants.
Joan Laporta told L’Esportiu: “Who doesn’t love Ney?”
“He is a great player, but he has [three years] on his contract with PSG. He is addicted to money.
“The only way he can return to Barça for free. It would be absurd to pay for a player he already has.
“Leo has left the way he is going. We would all like him to finish his sporting career here, but because of the [LaLiga] rules and because of PSG’s gift, it was not possible.
“If he wants to come back one day, it will have to be free. And the technical staff will have to decide if he is fit for the new job or not.”
Outside the pitch, Franck Kessie has confirmed his departure from AC Milan ahead of his move to Camp Nou, with a deadline set for Ousmane Dembele to sign a new contract with the club.
There is also frustration in the negotiations with Gavi, Laporta says “we do not understand why his representative is playing and comparing”.
