Liverpool are hopeful that Sadio Mane will sign a new contract this summer, despite the reported interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.
The 30-year-old’s current contract expires in 2023, but he has been told he will have to wait until the summer to renew it as the club continues to fight for three titles.
A report from Germany suggested that Bayern Munich could look into taking advantage of the situation, and it was reported that a meeting had been held between Sadio Mane’s agents and Die Roten sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic, although there had been no ‘official talks’ with Liverpool.
That has since been played down, although Salihamidzic revealed on Sunday that Bayern was looking to make waves in the transfer window, saying: “Let yourself be surprised. We have to see what can happen and what doesn’t. We have creative ideas.”
However, Sadio Mane will not be worried about leaving and Liverpool are hoping to sign a new contract at Anfield this summer.
Sadio Mane’s contract demands have not been paid, and the Senegalese player is believed to be asking for £ 250,000 to £ 300,000 a week – although that will still make him the highest paid player in the current team.
Mohamed Salah is in a similar situation as his contract expires in 12 months, although his demands are very high.
Liverpool have secured a wider future in the signings of Porto star striker Luis Diaz, who made his debut in his first few months in England, so it remains to be seen whether the owners of the Fenway Sports Group (FSG) feel they can move forward without further ado. Current scholar Salah and Mane.
Sadio Mane has enjoyed another great season, scoring 21 times in 47 games so far and winning the Carabao Cup in February. The Reds have two more finals to play this season, in the FA Cup where they will face Chelsea on Saturday, and the Champions League with Real Madrid on May 28.
