Liverpool’s 1-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday saw them set a new team record for winning more than once in one season.

The  Liverpool FC won in Tyneside following a goal in Naby Keita’s first half, although points kept Newcastle at bay and the visitors had to win big berries.

However, Jurgen Klopp’s side returned to Merseyside with three points and an amazing record.

Liverpool have now won 42 games in all competitions this season, more than any other campaign in their good history.

The previous 41 records was set for the Premier League winners of the 2019/20 20 and two league and trophy winners in 1985/86.

This year’s total was helped by Liverpool’s run to the home cup final, as well as an almost unbeaten record in the Champions League.

The Reds will play seven more games this season, with a chance to extend their current record to 49 wins. However, that could be short of the national record held by Manchester City, who won 50 wins in 2018/19 on their way to the first home treble.

City also recorded 47 wins last season and 44 in 2017/18, with Everton (43 in 1984-85) and Manchester United (44 in 2008/09) also ahead of Liverpool.
