Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is reportedly at the top of Manchester City’s dream list, as they look to win the Champions League next season.
The Dutchman has struggled to find a deal this season and Barcelona could be open for sale if the right promise comes, given their uncertain financial situation.
According to The Times, Barcelona will be open to offer De Jong for £ 60 million (70 million euros), which was signed by Barcelona in 2019 from Ajax for an estimated 77.4 million euros (86 million euros).
De Jong has also been linked with European giants Manchester United and Bayern Munich, but Barcelona coach Xavi Hernandez has recently revealed that he has the 24-year-old in his plans.
“She is very important,” said Xavi. “He has to explain the time at the club.
“He is at a very good level and I am very happy with him. He has to keep going. He has to score, he has to help and he has to be an important player.”
Meanwhile, Fernandinho is expected to part with Manchester City when his contract expires this summer, with West Ham star Declan Rice also on the Sky Blues shortlist as a midfielder.
However, Pep Guardiola’s No. 1 target this summer is none other than Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, who has also attracted Real Madrid, Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
It is worth remembering that City have already made an agreement to sign the highly promising Argentine striker Julian Alvarez, who will remain on loan at River Plate until at least July 2022.
