Julian Nagelsmann removes the emotions from the situation after it was confirmed that Robert Lewandowski wants to leave Bayern Munich.
Lewandowski has scored his 50th goal of the season in all competitions as Bayern close out another Bundesliga campaign with a 2-2 draw at Wolfsburg on Saturday.
However, before the match, it was revealed that the 33-year-old had refused a new contract.
Lewandowski has a contract until the end of next season but wants a new challenge after eight years with the big Bundesliga clubs. Barcelona is closely associated with taking action.
While Nagelsmann admitted it would be a loss whenever Lewandowski left Bayern – the club should decide whether to withdraw money in the coming months or keep him for next season and allow free transfers – he insisted there was no time to be sad.
Instead he should focus on the acquisition task that will replace the player who broke the record.
Nagelsmann told a press conference: “Yes, it is a loss or it will be a loss, but you still have a contract until 2023, and I think we have all commented on this.
“There is no other statement about it, except that you have a contract until 2023. There are no reports yet.
“Yes, it always happens that if you lose a player who has played very well, or you just lose a player in general, it ‘s not always good.
“It’s best to inspire us to look for a new striker after next season or next season who will replace Leewy. That’s the job we have to do.
“There is little room for grief, but you should try to make the best of this situation in the future.”
Reflecting on his first season as Bayern coach, where he led the Bavarians to their 10th Bundesliga title but failed to make it to the quarter-finals of the Champions League, Nagelsmann said: “It was difficult. It has not been so easy this season. .
“The first half of the season was good. We were expecting another result in the cup, but in the end, we were very good in the group stage of the Champions League, and we were very good in the league.
“In the second half of the season, we were struggling. It was no longer stable. Sometimes we played well, we didn’t get good results especially in the Champions League. In the end, I think we could have done better.”
