Villarreal defender Pau Torres has denied he is close to Manchester United and has indicated he has a request to stay with La Liga.
Torres has emerged as the target of many of the best clubs this summer following another impressive season at home and in Europe. The Spaniard also boasts of his left foot.
London clubs Chelsea and Tottenham have expressed interest in the 25-year-old, but it is United who are leading the race in this category.
the move had been approved by Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag. The Red Devils are in talks about a deal with the mediators, and Torres’ representatives are willing to agree on terms to show the intent of making the transfer happen on the player’s side.
However, Torres was embarrassed about his future when he spoke to Spanish-speaking AS, emphasizing that he had nothing to report but a contract from Villarreal when his current goals expire in 2024.
“Right now there is nothing,” he said. “There are so many things to talk about every year, I have peace of mind being where I wanted to be, in my club life and I have this gift right now that I really value as well.
“Nothing right now, all I have is a request from Villarreal, so I’m calm.”
