Robert Lewandowski has told Bayern Munich he wants to leave the club and head to Barcelona in the next transfer window – and manager Julian Nagelsmann reportedly will not stand in his way.
Lewandowski, 33, is in the middle of a historic season, scoring more goals per game in the Bundesliga and Champions League. He has 34 goals and three assistants in 33 league games, with 13 goals and three assistants in his 10 Champions League games.
With his contract expiring in just over 12 months, it has been speculated that Bayern would like to hold on to the Polish star to increase his chances in the Champions League instead of earning money, but that may not be the case.
He has been named FIFA Men’s Player of the Year for two consecutive years and coming out of his third season in conjunction with at least 34 league goals, Lewandowski’s time in Munich seems to have come to an end as Sport reports his heart set on a move to Barcelona.
Whether he is encouraged to invest while the club is still able to, or to honor the wishes of one of the greatest players ever to wear the badge, Nagelsmann is said to be in the middle of Lewandowski’s decision and will try to facilitate the transfer.
The report also includes notes that it may be a difficult step for the Spanish giants to withdraw financially, although it may be important for their off-season plans, which means the club will do everything possible to prioritize that.
