Despite the fact that Real Madrid have already won the LaLiga title and secured a place in the UEFA Champions League final, the derby against Atletico Madrid will remain crucial, even if there is no danger in this.

Karim Benzema will not miss Sunday’s game, where he will have the opportunity to overtake Raul Gonzalez as Real Madrid’s second-choice scorer.

With his goal against Manchester City, the Frenchman has scored 322 goals for Los Blancos. This is just one goal less than the former Real Madrid captain.

Surprisingly, it was at Atletico Madrid’s former stadium, the Estadio Vicente Calderon, that Raul scored his first Real Madrid goal in the 1994/95 season.

Benzema also wants to score in the derby to win the Pichichi award. He has netted 26 times this season for LaLiga Santander, followed by Raul de Tomas, who has scored 15 goals, but the Frenchman has four games to go.

With 43 goals in 43 games in total, Benzema wants to end the season in style.

Real Madrid have not lost a derby at Atletico since October 2015, under current coach Ancelotti.

The 4-0 loss to Los Rojiblancos marked the beginning of the Italian coach’s end despite winning Real Madrid’s 10th European title.

Since then, Real Madrid have never lost a league derby away from home. The end of their 2017 Champions League semi-final defeat.

Los Blancos have won five of the last seven league games between the two teams and two of them ended in a draw.

Real Madrid also won the 2020 Supercopa de Espana final between the two clubs on penalties, while Atletico won the 2018 UEFA Super Cup in extra time.
