Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has confirmed that Zinedine Zidane will not be the club’s new manager, with Christophe Galtier set to take the job instead.
Zinedine Zidane was expected to take over from PSG following a break from management, but Galtier has jumped ahead in line to replace Mauricio Pochettino in recent weeks. The manager spent last season with Nice after leading Lille to win the Ligue 1 title in 2020/21.
Speaking to Le Parisian, Al-Khelaifi emphasized that the party had never negotiated with Zidane and ‘chose the other way’: “Zinedine Zidane? I will tell you one thing: we have never spoken to him, directly or indirectly.
“We have chosen a path other than Zidane. We have selected a coach who will be at the top of our list.
“Fans are disappointed to have Galtier and not Zidane? The dream is one thing, the truth is another. A great dream is good but today, we must above all be real, we no longer want glory, humor, the end of glitter. We want the truth.”
The PSG president also gave a review of negotiations with Nice about Galtier, saying he hoped to secure a deal.
“We have discussions with Nice,” he said. “It’s no secret. I hope we get an agreement soon.”
