Barcelona have made a bid for Robert Lewandowski but are yet to hear back from Bayern Munich, Joan Laporta has revealed.
Robert Lewandowski emerged as Blaugrana’s top scorer at the end of the 2021-22 season, enjoying another outstanding campaign at Bayern.
The striker, who turns 34 next month, has scored 50 goals in all competitions to lead all players in Europe’s top five leagues.
He was also at the top of the charts in the rain once every 80 minutes on average.
Robert Lewandowski made it clear he could move to Barca, but progress was slow as the club threatened other players.
Franck Kessie and Andreas Christensen were introduced at the Camp Nou on consecutive days this week, with Barcelona president Laporta insisting that there would be no further business venture until the club had rectified its financial position.
That is not the only reason Lewandowski is yet to become a Barca player, however, with Laporta suggesting the ball stay on the Bayern stadium – even if the Bundesliga champions have openly expressed their desire to keep their star.
“You know we have made a promise to Lewandowski, and we are waiting for Bayern’s response,” the president said at a Christensen news conference Thursday.
“I want to thank the player for his future actions. [Bayern] must review the application, and await a response.”
Laporta was also asked about Cristiano Ronaldo, as he had appeared with Kessie the other day.
The Barca boss was reluctant to speak directly to Ronaldo but was not surprised to be linked with a Manchester United striker, who spent nine years with rivals Real Madrid.
“We are very lucky that most of the players want to come to Barca,” said Laporta. “When the opportunity arises, they are considerate and happy.
“We have seen this, and we are very lucky – with our history, the players we have, and what we have achieved.
“I’m not going to name, I’m just saying in general. There are some great players in the big leagues, but if there is a Barca option, they look at it.
“Barca are still very popular, and honesty and deception are back. The evidence is that players like Christensen want to continue their sporting careers at Barca.
“We will return to normalcy and enter the trading market with great guarantees of success.”
