Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has played down talks linking his side with a summer move for wantaway Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
Man United’s failed attempt to qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, in line with the club’s irrational transfer policy, has led to Ronaldo applying to leave Old Trafford.
His decision to move to a new club in the coming months has put several of Europe’s top clubs on alert, with Bayern emerging as one of his top destinations.
The incumbent Bundesliga champions have already won a major Premier League star away from England this summer, as they have acquired Sadio Mane of Liverpool.
However, they appear to have no intention of associating the Senegalese midfielder with Ronaldo, according to Kahn.
“As I regard Cristiano Ronaldo as one of the great players, the movement will not be in line with our philosophy,” he said, as conveyed by Fabrizio Romano.
Kahn has successfully ruled out Bayern in the 37-year-old’s race, but Jorge Mendes is still working around the clock to remove his client from Man United.
The Portuguese captain has grown frustrated with the way the Red Devils are doing business and is determined to leave just one year back on the team from Juventus.
As he nears the end of his professional career, Ronaldo knows that his chances of winning the title of the sixth Champions League record are slowing down.
So only the teams that can bring the ball to the Champions League on the table will have a chance to win the Ballon d’Or five times this summer.
Rumors circulating about Ronaldo’s return to Real Madrid are spreading after these days, though it should be taken with a grain of salt.
