Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastien Haller has withdrawn from their pre-season camp in Switzerland after discovering a tumour, the club has confirmed.
The Ivory Coast international, who signed a four-year contract with Ajax in the Black and Yellow earlier this month, has returned to Germany for further tests.
The Bundesliga side asked that the privacy of the 28-year-old and his family be respected, adding that they would provide further updates if possible.
Haller initially complained after Monday’s practice that he didn’t feel well before subsequent medical tests revealed a tumor on his testicle.
“The news today shocked Sebastien Haller and all of us,” said sporting director Sebastian Kehl.
“The entire BVB family wishes Sebastien a speedy full recovery and that we can hug him again soon. We will do everything in our power to ensure he receives the best possible treatment.”
Haller’s move to Dortmund marks his second spell in the Bundesliga after previously playing for Eintracht Frankfurt and comes on the back of an impressive revival at Ajax after a lackluster spell with West Ham.
The forward finished last season as the top scorer in the Eredivisie with 21 goals in 31 games.
