Gabriel Batistuta commented on the Argentian national team, the World Cup, and Lionel Messi.

Batistuta is one of the best strikers in world football. One of the best of them all, he scored two hat-tricks in two separate FIFA World Cup tournaments with Argentina’s national team.

Before Lionel Messi, Batigol was Argentina’s top scorer. Now retired, he spoke in an interview with La Nación. Here is what he had to say:

“Argentina is doing well, very well. They have a good lot, don’t they?

“Winning the Copa America, it loosened them up, you see them ungroomed, the coach is firm, you see how they follow him… If they win it? For all I know, I played football and this is not math.”

About Lionel Messi:

“I didn’t play until I was 40 because my ankles wouldn’t let me, but I understand his mentality. He shows he can, why stop? We all play because we have a goal, and that goal is to be the best in the world… forever. And that’s what drives him. And I imagine he’ll play until he’s fired.

“Messi will play well in this World Cup and not because it could be his last.” Because I’m sure he wanted to win the previous ones as well, but now he has a good team.”

As for Lionel Scaloni:

“I don’t know him, but the skinny guy won. He went with logic: Do you see when you throw a pebble into the water? The waves do it like this, one by one… Well, the skinny guy (Scaloni) started with the players. He didn’t start by wanting to convince fans, journalists. No. He never gave anything. Never any controversy, nothing.”

About the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar Favorites:

“There are many. In Spain they say they can’t miss it this year… And Belgium and there’s England and Germany is Germany and we still haven’t named France. And nobody’s talking about Portugal; wait a minute and you’ll see Portugal.

“But I come back to it: Our national team is having a great time. We are making our debut against Saudi Arabia. The title doesn’t tell you anything, but they are at the World Cup. Congo is not here. Chile is not here.”
