Manchester United are prepared to make Casemiro one of the Premier League’s highest earners in order to persuade him to move to Old Trafford.

Casemiro was in no rush to leave Real Madrid this summer, but recent interest in the Brazilian has turned his head.

Both Carlo Ancelotti and Real want the Brazil international to stay in Spain, but there is huge mutual respect between the player and his club. The European champions have told Casemiro they will not stand in his way of leaving if he makes it clear he wants to go and if their valuation is met.

A deal worth £50m could be agreed between the clubs if United agree personal terms with the 30-year-old, although the total deal could rise to more than £60m if all add-ons are met.

Chelsea have been in close contact with Real Madrid over a potential deal, 90 Minutes revealed this week, and are considering a move over the next few weeks.

However, Manchester United are speaking to Casemiro’s representatives as they want to make sure the player wants to move to Old Trafford. Sources confirmed to 90 Minutes that matters had “picked up” in the past 24 hours.

During these negotiations, it emerged that United would be willing to pay Casemiro almost £400,000 a week, including bonuses. Spanish sources have told 90min it would almost double Casemiro’s wages in terms of his take home pay at Real Madrid, although sources close to United dispute that is not quite the case.

It is understood that United are even willing to offer the player a five-year contract – an attractive prospect for a player over 30 years of age.

90min understands that Chelsea would be unwilling to give the player such a huge pay rise, but with United unable to offer Champions League football, they will look to overcome that hurdle with a financial reward.

United have already shown they would be willing to pay similar wages to what they would offer summer number one target Frenkie de Jong. United have not fully confirmed that they are backing away from this deal, but it is highly unlikely that they could accept two deals of this magnitude.

90min reported earlier this week that Erik ten Hag wants five new signings before the transfer window closes, with defensive midfield a priority.
